Why Karuppu Kavuni Rice for Dosa?
Karuppu Kavuni (Black Rice) is a traditional rice variety from Tamil Nadu. It is rich in fiber, iron, and antioxidants. When used for dosa, it gives a unique flavor, beautiful purple shade, and adds an extra dose of health to your daily meal.
Ingredients:
- Karuppu Kavuni Rice – 1 cup
- Idli Rice (Parboiled Rice) – 1 cup
- Urad Dal – ½ cup
- Fenugreek seeds – 1 tsp
- Salt – as required
- Water – as needed
Preparation Method:
- Wash and soak Karuppu Kavuni rice, idli rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds separately for 6 – 8 hours.
- Grind urad dal and fenugreek seeds first into a smooth, fluffy batter.
- Grind both rices together into a slightly coarse batter.
- Mix both batters, add salt, and let it ferment for 8 – 10 hours or overnight.
- Heat a dosa tawa, pour a ladle of batter, spread thin, drizzle oil, and cook until crisp.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney, sambar, or tomato chutney.
Health Tip:
This dosa is gluten – free, high in antioxidants, and easy to digest. A wholesome and tasty replacement for regular white rice dosa.
