Karuppu Kavuni (Black) Rice Ladoo
How to Make Ladoo with Karuppu Kavuni (Black) Rice
Karuppu Kavuni Rice, also known as Black Rice, is an ancient, nutrient-rich grain known for its deep color, unique taste, and high antioxidant content. Today, let’s prepare a delicious and healthy sweet – Kavuni Arisi Ladoo – using this traditional rice.
This recipe is a wholesome alternative to regular rava or maida-based ladoos and brings a traditional twist to your dessert plate.
Ingredients:
- Karuppu Kavuni (Black) Rice – 1 cup
- Jaggery or sugar – ¾ cup (adjust to taste)
- Grated coconut – ½ cup
- Ghee – 3 tablespoons
- Cardamom – 4 pods (crushed or powdered)
- Cashews – 10
- Raisins – optional
Preparation Method:
- Wash the Karuppu Kavuni rice thoroughly, dry it in shade, then lightly roast it in a pan. Once cooled, grind it into a fine powder using a mixer or grinder.
- In a pan, heat ghee and roast the cashews and raisins until golden. Set aside.
- In the same pan, dry roast the ground rice powder and grated coconut for 2-3 minutes on low flame, until a mild aroma comes.
- Add powdered jaggery or sugar to the mix and stir well.
- Add cardamom powder and roasted cashews/raisins. Mix everything thoroughly.
- While the mixture is still warm, add a little ghee if needed, take small portions, and shape them into ladoos by hand.
A Sweet Treat That’s Nutritious Too
These Karuppu Kavuni Rice Ladoos are rich in iron, fiber, and antioxidants. They’re a perfect healthy snack or dessert for kids and adults alike — especially if you’re looking to bring traditional ingredients back to your kitchen.
